Aaron Travers’ “Weave In,” for choir, bandoneon and piano, was premiered today (October 10, 2021) by the Bloomington Unitarian Universalist Church Choir under Susan Swaney. The instrumental parts were performed by the duo Ben&Winnie (Ben Bogart, bandoneon; Winnie Cheung, piano). The piece was commissioned in honor of Dan Quilter, former chair of the Spanish Language Department at Indiana University, and former UU Choir member, who died in May of 2008. His tireless work with the organization Interweave, dedicated to ending oppression based on sexual orientation and sexual identity, inspired the choice of text for this piece, Walt Whitman’s “Weave in my hardy life.”
