Aaron Travers was awarded 2nd prize in the 2013 Alexander Zemlinsky Composition Competition from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. The award comes with a $20,000 commission to compose a new orchestral work for one of CCM’s orchestras. The Alexander Zemlinsky Prize for Composition, now in its third iteration, serves three purposes: to perpetuate the memory of Alexander Zemlinsky, to find new works for symphony orchestra that are truly original and have the power to communicate with and engage a broad audience, and to promote and encourage young composers internationally.
Aaron Travers’ new work will be entitled Ruins upon Ruins and will be premiered in 2015.
