About this Work

The Red and White Suite was written for Maja Radovanlija and Guido Sanchez.  This suite is modeled after Bach’s keyboard partitas, especially the 4th in D major.  Each of the five movements  follows the traditional dance forms of the Baroque suite, but only just. Though they retain the binary form, I took a great deal of license in terms of what I could do within that form.  The Ouverture, for example, begins with the traditional dotted rhythms of the French overture, but is followed by a jagged, decidedly non-fugal fast section that owes more to Berio than to Bach.
